In Top 5 Reasons to Move to East Tennessee, we shared a few of the reasons we believe moving to the Knoxville area of East Tennessee is a great idea. Cost of living, low taxes, and unique communities are just some of what we love about East Tennessee. While compelling enough we think, those reasons only scratched the surface about why East Tennessee is well-worth considering. So we decided to follow up today with a few more reasons we think you’ll love life in East Tennessee.

1. Big city meets laid-back living

Many people choose to live in large, densely-populated cities because there may be more career and job opportunities and higher paychecks. There can also be more immediate access to resources, healthcare options, desirable schools, and entertainment options. As a result, they often compromise and have to deal with higher property taxes, more traffic, higher pollution, noise, and the like.

The great thing about East Tennessee is that you can get the best of both worlds. As the third-largest metropolitan area in Tennessee, Greater Knoxville (KMSA) offers everything a typical city experience can without sacrificing the magic of the slower pace that makes moving out of the big city so attractive.

Bottom line: we don’t think you should have to compromise loving where you live for being close to the comforts you need.

2. A growing job market

It’s no secret that there were many negative impacts on the US economy and job market in 2020. But did you know that a US Department of Labor study showed that Tennessee is only one of a few states that added jobs during the pandemic? In fact, Knoxville ranked 3rd in the nation for increased employment in 2020, and among the top ten cities to increase employment, three were from Tennessee in the top 10. The fastest-growing industry in the Knoxville area was Professional and Business Services, while other rapidly-growing Tennessee industries include Education, Health Services, Construction, Leisure and Hospitality, Trade, Transportation and Utilities, and Financial Activities.

Bottom line: Many industries in Tennessee added jobs and saw growth - likely including yours.

3. Unique real estate

Unique home lots

If you’re considering a move, you probably have an idea of the type of home you’re accustomed to. You might even have a list of “must-haves” and “nice-to-haves” in your next home. It will be important that you choose a community that can give your family the best experience.

Our 1,400-acre lakefront community, Tennessee National, located within easy access to Knoxville, was built to provide residents with the homes, homesites, views, and amenities that mean the most to them. This means whether your list of “must-haves” includes lakefront property, wooded views, state-of-the-art kitchens, walkout basements, a community garden, golf course access, onsite dining, outdoor leisure pursuits, or any combination thereof, Tennessee National is a community that the whole family will love.

Bottom line: Tennessee National offers four distinct homesite neighborhoods in the community with a variety of views and environments, as well as a custom-home team whose passion is building your dream home. Schedule your tour today.

4. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville

East Tennessee is home to University of Tennessee (Knoxville), the largest university in the state, with over 33,000 students. It’s a public research university that ranks in the top 100 universities and has also been listed as one of the Forbes best employers in the state.

UT offers some of the country’s best undergraduate and graduate programs in everything from aerospace to theater, and just about everything in between. Not to mention that in-state tuition is less than half what you’ll if you’re from out-of-state?

UT isn’t just about making the grade, though. It’s also a vibrant pillar in the community, with residents, alumni, and visitors coming year round for SEC football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and many other sporting events held by the university.

Bottom line: We bleed orange in East Tennessee.

5. Vibrant food and music scenes

Bluegrass Music

East Tennessee isn’t just known for its spectacular rolling hills or the Great Smoky Mountains. It’s also famous for whiskey and bluegrass music, and some of the nicest people you’ll find, with more arriving daily. Together all of these things combine to create a cultural experience filled with one-of-a-kind music, cultural festivals, adventures, dining experiences, and so much more.

Whether you love the idea of sipping signature cocktails at a Jazz Brunch, licking your fingers while eating some of the best barbecue you’ll ever taste, or splurging on traditional biscuits and gravy, you won’t go hungry in East Tennessee.

Bottom line: No matter what kind of entertainment you like, you’ll love Tennessee’s Southern hospitality.

6. A place to raise a family

Family Time

While there’s never a shortage of exciting things to do in East Tennessee, your family will still benefit from a laid-back living atmosphere. For example, at Tennessee National, families and neighbors love spending time together making memories at the community pool or trails, on the lake, or just visiting at the onsite restaurant. In addition to all the resort amenities, Tennessee National also offers many social events and open-air lakefront concerts throughout the year for people of all ages. You can be as social (or not) as you see fit.

With several public and private schools nearby, children from pre-school through high school benefit from small classes, onsite and hybrid learning options, youth sports, and well-rounded educational programs.

Bottom line: East Tennessee is a great place to raise (or start) a family.

7. Dolly Parton.

We can’t talk about what’s great about Tennessee without mentioning Dolly Parton, who’s originally from Sevier County (KMSA). Dolly Parton reigns as one of the best country singers of all time, and as one of the most notable humanitarians in the country. She advocates for world literacy, education, public health, and is the epitome of grace and humility.

Bottom line: Shouldn’t we all be more like Dolly?
