Building your dream home doesn’t have to be complicated; the right builder can make it easy.

If you’ve ever considered building a custom home, you have probably thought about the steps it would take, the decisions you would have to make, and whether or not you were up for the challenge.

You shouldn’t have to quit your job to have enough time to manage all the tasks associated with the building process. The right custom home builder can help make the experience memorable for all the right reasons. At Tennessee National, we’re all about extraordinary experiences. That’s why we wanted to share a few quick steps to help you understand what to expect when you build your home at Tennessee National.

So, where do you start?

Step 1: Schedule a tour.

Schedule a Home Tour

If a picture is worth a thousand words, visiting Tennessee National and seeing it for yourself might be worth a hundred thousand. We think seeing is believing and invite you to visit us to see if you fall in love with our community just as much as we have. Book a visit and come out to get a feel for the rich and vibrant community you might decide to call home.

A dedicated Tennessee National real estate agent will meet with you to gain an understanding of your family’s unique needs and preferences and will give you a personalized tour to show you what the community has to offer.

Step 2: Get the lay of the land.

Find the perfect home lot

The hardest part of the home building process might be deciding which lot you want to call home! During your visit, you’ll learn about the various land types that make up the community, and of course, about the current lot inventory. But more importantly, you’ll learn about the unique views and locations so that you can make the right decision about where to build your new home.

Tennessee National offers homes and lots in any of our unique micro-communities. Choose your view: lakefront, lake view, golf view, valley view, or ridge top, and imagine yourself enjoying your new dream house. Lots of various sizes are available to meet nearly every land need and budget.

If you think you might want to purchase a home rather than build, your Tennessee National representative can show you preowned or move-in-ready homes under construction that are currently available. Whether you love craftsman style or farmhouse, or anything in between, you’ll find many options to choose from.

Step 3: Meet the team.

Once you’ve selected your lot, the real excitement begins. You’ll need custom home builders who understand every step of a construction project, from home design, to selections, to building, all the way to their willingness to stand behind their customer service promises.

At Tennessee National, we have dedicated professionals for each step of the process. First, you’ll meet with a custom home specialist, who will be your main point of contact during the construction process. Your custom home specialist’s job centers around making your dream home a reality. They’ll walk you though the design process, guide you in making selections, manage your construction timeline, and - perhaps most importantly - your construction budget.

Along the way, you will also meet with an interior designer, one or more project managers, and other specialists who are working to bring your project together.

Step 4: Choose your floor plan.

Pick the perfect floor plan

You don’t have to worry about finding an architect and having your own house plans drawn. We have highly skilled architects that we work with regularly who will design the perfect home for your needs and style. Simply tell us what your family desires, and we’ll conduct a site analysis of your lot, and then work with our architect to design a plan that will be perfect for your lot, location, needs, building codes, and style. It’s that simple.

An architect has already drawn many Tennessee National custom floor plans with popular architectural style features to help you narrow down your choice, or we can take your vision and bring it to life for you.

When you work with our custom building team, you benefit from the fact that we’re in step with and highly knowledgeable about the community’s style and guidelines for home exteriors and landscaping, so you won’t have to worry about long approval processes before getting your build started.

Our project estimators will work with you on your budget, so that you can secure a construction loan or other financial needs during your custom build.

Step 5: Personalize your interior.

Our architect has drawn your home; now it’s time to give it character. Your custom home specialist and interior design team will meet with during the construction phase to guide you through customizing choosing the look and feel of your home’s interior phase. Unlike when building a production home, you will have a wide selection of customizations that will bring your design style to life. Our interior design specialists will provide insights into popular trends and upgrades, the best ways to maximize your views, and help you design a home that’s both beautiful and functional in every way you need it.

And don’t worry about making the wrong decision about a feature. If you change your mind throughout the process and want to ask a question or request a change order, your specialist will help you do that with ease. You can be as engaged in the process as you want!

Step 6: Let the magic happen!

Things move quickly during the construction process. But rest assured, you don’t have to worry about things like contractors, building permits, the construction schedule, or the budget. Your custom home specialist and construction manager will be working tirelessly to manage every detail of your home build.

Your custom home specialist will walk you through any specific steps for approvals, change orders, and communication, so that you feel comfortable every step of the way. You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to peek in on your project. You’ll have a couple of scheduled walk-throughs throughout the process for you to ask questions and provide feedback to your builders. And, we’ll share regular updates and photos about your home’s progress, schedule, and budget - all while you sit back and let the magic happen without having to stress about anything.

Step 7: Move in and make memories.

Make Family Memories

A few weeks before your home’s completion, your builders will determine the final completion timeline so that you can schedule your movers and next steps. Together, we’ll conduct a final walkthrough to determine those last few necessary adjustments, and then it’s time to move into your new home and start making memories.

So enjoy the journey, welcome to your new home, and congratulations on the new life you’re creating for yourself and your family - you deserve it!
